After months of consideration, I finally decided yesterday that I'm going to take the jump and move to Dallas! I know, I'm shocked too. Here's a quick recap to bring you up to speed on me, my life and how this all happened:
• My past: I grew up in Pittsburgh and went to college at Carnegie Mellon University (already in Pittsburgh.) While in college, I interned up in New York City and fell in love with it. (Although I had always known I wanted to live there.) In February, 2006 I moved up for a wonderful job at a major ecommerce site.
• My present: I live in what I consider the best neighborhood on the planet, Hoboken, in the best apartment I've ever seen with the most wonderful roommate ever. Over a year ago, I was lucky enough to meet Mark, the best boyfriend ever. For several years I have been proudly involved with the largest Steelers club outside of Pittsburgh, Steelers in Hoboken.
• What happened next: Mark got a big promotion to VP which takes him to his company's headquarters in Texas. Commence me stressing about what to do: do I stay? Do I go? Do I travel for a bit and then make a decision? We went and visited and found a wonderful apartment in a great area in Dallas (the West Village in Uptown.) And then an amazing opportunity comes my way at a major real estate company to be a UI designer for their internal applications. Great environment, with the opportunity for me to learn a ton. I got the offer Thursday, accepted Friday and quit my job of over 5-1/2 years. My last day will be Aug 19th and I'll start in Texas on Aug 22nd.
One month left to make the most of the my favorite place in the world! There is so much to do and so little time! I'm excited and nervous about this risk I'm taking. But like everyone says, it's the nerves that keeps life interesting. And I can always come back. (Although I'd have lost my apartment and amazing roommate... Tear.)
I decided to start this blog today, the day after I made what my friends have proclaimed as "The Decision 2011", to keep track as my adventure evolves and keep in touch with everyone I'm going to miss so dearly. And maybe someday help someone else relocating to Texas. I thought the name was appropriate, "Hot in Dallas", because of the play on the title "Hot in Cleveland", a show I've never seen but from what I understand is based on the idea that a group of women find themselves much more valued in a smaller town then where they are now. Although I hate Cleveland (Steelers/Browns rivalry,) I thought the concept rang true since the amazing offer I got at my new job has proven that I'm a much hotter commodity there.
And besides, it sure is hot in Texas!
